HELPING FAMILIES WITH AFFORDABILITY

September 2022

The cost of living has increased in recent months. It has a real impact on our communities, and it is felt the most by low-income households.

We’re implementing a few measures to help make life more affordable for families who are struggling.

We announced that we will double the GST tax credit for six months for those who receive it. This will help 11 Million Canadians and means that single Canadians without kids will receive up to $234, couples with children will receive up to $467 more, and eligible seniors can expect an average boost of $225 this year.

We are also increasing the value of the Canada Housing Benefit by $500 for those who receive it, and we are providing up to $1300 in support over the next two years to households with incomes below $90,000 as a first step towards helping with the cost of dental services.

These measures are going to help put money in the pockets of people living in our communities.
